HOW TO MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR SHOP SESSION

BEFORE YOU ARRIVE

Do your research! You will be doing all of the work yourself, so coming into a repair with some basic knowledge can go a long way towards making things go smoothly. Online videos, forums, and component manufacturers themselves can all be great resources. If all of this prep seems a bit daunting, don't worry! Our volunteers will try their best to help you figure things out.

Dress appropriately! We recommend closed-toe shoes and clothing you won’t mind getting dirty.

Bring ID! If it’s your first time at the shop, we will need you to bring some form of identification.

AT THE SHOP

Sign in! Make sure to stop by the front desk so that a greeter can get you checked in. If it’s your first time in the shop, you will be asked to sign an injury & liability waiver. Once you have signed in, you will be directed to an open stand.

Get set up! Arriving at the beginning of open hours can help to ensure that you have enough time for your repair. At the shop, most of what you will need will be on your workstand. Each workstand has its own set of color-coded tools; you are responsible for making sure all of those tools are still there at the end of your shop session. Some repairs require highly specialized tools. If you think you may need one of these tools, ask a volunteer; they will fetch the tool and assist with the repair.

Record! If you need to buy a part, make sure to ask for a check-out sheet. You can record any purchases there and pay for them all together at the end.

Ask! We are here to help! It’s always easier to do something right the first time around than to fix a botched repair.

FINISHING UP

Clean up! Before you leave, make sure to put away any tools and wipe down your stand.

Check out! Bring your check-out sheet to the front desk and pay your shop fee. Volunteers get to use the shop for free!
